All The Devils Come Out To Play is one part experiment, one part therapy, one part just fucking clicking “post” and letting the work fly out into the world.

It’s a story that takes place in the fictional dying city of Djaraine in the fictional dying empire of the Lur-Maison Republique in the fictional dying world of Radnya. Any relation to the modern world is entirely coincidental.*

It’s a little bit Disco Elysium, a little bit House of Leaves, a little bit The City and the City, with plenty of other influences that are both worn on the sleeve and buried deep in the text. It follows Gustav Mychele, once a proud member of the leftist Zyedni Party, now a tired and burned out detective — though he wouldn’t call himself that.

After meeting a celebrity actress from the isolated Arcology across town, he’s taken on the job of finding her twin brother, who recently saw The Hand — some may call it a delusion, a hallucination, or very very real. Whatever it is, hundreds of people over the years have seen The Hand. While great for tabloid fodder, it’s largely been ignored as a slow-motion mass hysteria.

Only, according to the actress: Everyone who’s seen The Hand, including her brother, has gone missing.

So begins Gustav’s journey across the crumbling Djaraine, crossing paths with ethical drug dealers, fascist uprisings, anarchist enclaves, cults, the City Militia, and the ever-present pressure from the Republique as its grip on power inevitably slips away.
